A Bangladeshi man was detained by India's Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday after crossing into Indian territory from Sylhet's Panthumai border in Gowainghat upazila.
The arrested Hoson Ahmed,41, is a resident of Paschim Panthumai village and was apprehended around 12:30 PM while attempting to retrieve a cow that had strayed across the border.
According to Sarker Tofael Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station, Hoson had been grazing his cattle near the border when one of his cows wandered into India. In an attempt to bring it back, he crossed the border and was subsequently detained by the BSF, along with the cow.
Hoson's family, concerned about his absence, filed a general diary (GD) with the local police at around 8:00 PM.
Following this, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) initiated steps to resolve the matter, calling for a flag meeting with the BSF to negotiate Hoson's release. The BGB remains in contact with Indian authorities to ensure a swift resolution to the situation.
