Twelve High Court judges have been sent on mandatory leave in the wake of the allegations against them that they desperately tried to keep the Sheikh Hasina government in power.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Wednesday (October 16) sent them on mandatory leave after inviting them at tea at the Supreme Court.
The judges were Justice Naima Haider, Justice Sheikh Hasan Ariff, Justice Ashish Ranjan Das, Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam Sarker, Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Justice Ataur Rahman Khan, Justice Shahed Noor Uddin, Justice Md Aktaruzzaman, Justice Md Aminul Islam, Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, Justice Khijir Hayat and Justice Khondker Diliruzzaman.
The names were disclosed by the lawyers demonstrated against those judges at the High Court premises on Wednesday.
In the afternoon, Supreme Court's registrar general Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan said the chief justice decided not to allocate benches among those 12 judges.
Earlier, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed sent 12 High Court judges on mandatory leave after inviting them at tea.
They were invited in the wake of the allegations that they had collaborated with fascist Sheikh Hasina government were raised against them.
Different organisations had also been demanding the resignation of pro-Awami League judges who got appointed during the reign of Awami League at the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
Besides, the general lawyers had also been demanding the pro-Awami League lawyers.
