A Jhenaidah court on Tuesday sentenced two individuals to life term imprisonment for killing a school teacher in 2014.
Jhenaidah Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Judge Muhammad Zakaria delivered the verdict against Tarikul Islam Kushna village, and former extremist leader Moniruddin from Gurpara village.
According to the case details, on the night of December 28, 2014, Jonab Ali, a former teacher of Boherampur Primary School and an Awami League worker, was shot dead while sitting at a tea stall in Sherkhali Bazar under Kotchandpur upazila. As locals chased the assailants, the perpetrators exploded two bombs and fled the scene, leaving behind a motorcycle with registration number Jashore H-13-4690.
The victim's family filed a murder case at Kotchandpur Police Station and after an investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet against 14 individuals.
Among the accused, one, named Rana, was killed in a police encounter.
After reviewing the testimonies of 23 witnesses, the court sentenced Tarikul from Kushna village and former extremist leader Moniruddin from Gurpara village to life imprisonment.
However, 11 others were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Ismail Hossain represented the state, while Advocate Azizur Rahman defended the accused.
