Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested fugitive twin brothers, who are accused in a murder case in Joypurhat Sadar upazila, from Dhamoirhat upazila in neighboring Naogaon district.
The brothers Toha, 24, and Joha, 24, from Haripur village under the Sadar upazila, were arrested around 1.45 AM on Tuesday, confirmed ASP Nurul Hoda, acting company commander of RAB-5, Joypurhat Camp.
during a raid in the Purbojagdal area of Dhamoirhat upazila in neighboring Naogaon district at 1:45 AM on Tuesday night.
According to the case statement, on August 14, a dispute over planting palm saplings along a boundary line escalated, during which Taha, Joha, and several others attacked the victim Sultan Ahmed from the same area. They struck him on the head with an iron rod in front of his home, causing severe injuries.
Sultan was initially admitted to Joypurhat General Hospital but as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment. After being discharged on August 17, his condition suddenly deteriorated the next day, and he was rushed back to Joypurhat General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, Sultan's wife, Pori Banu, filed a murder case at Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
RAB-5 members launched several operations to capture the accused and arrested the duo on Tuesday (October 15).
Later, the arrested individuals have been handed over to Joypurhat Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings, according to the RAB officials.
