Acting High Commissioner of the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh, Nardia Simpson, visited the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday.
In a courtesy call, she met Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, said a press release issued by the central publicity department of the party.
Speaking to reporters, Shafiqur Rahman said, "The meeting was very cordial and successful. We discussed in detail how we can advance the existing bilateral interests and relations between our two countries. In particular, we talked about how the Australian government can provide meaningful cooperation in our skill development programmes in the future. We also discussed what further role the Australian government can play as an important development partner for our country."
He added, "Many of our people are currently undergoing treatment after being injured in the mass uprising that occurred in July-August. I would like to request the Australian government, through the Acting High Commissioner, to provide assistance in the treatment of those who have lost their eyes, hands, legs, and limbs. We hope that the Australian government will continue to work for the progress of Bangladesh in the future, In Sha Allah."
Nayebe Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher, Maulana Anam Shamsul Islam, Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, Central Executive Council member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Central Executive Council member and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Matiur Rahman Akand, Central Executive Council member and Amir of Dhaka South Nurul Islam Bulbul, Central Executive Council member and Amir of Dhaka North Mohammad Selim Uddin, and Central Executive Council members Principal Muhammad Izzat Ullah, Principal Muhammad Shahabuddin, and Mobarak Hossain were present at that time.
