Mahmood Alam, Director of Public Relations Office (PRO) at Dhaka University (DU), retired on October 14, completing an eventful career of around 38 years in this profession.
Beginning his career as a journalist at the Bangladesh Observer, Mahmood later joined DU PRO as a reporter on December 28, 1986.
He became Director on November 12, 2018.
Talking to the Daily Observer on Monday, Mahmood reminisced his old days.
When asked how his journey was, he gleefully replied, "It was always good."
"I had opportunity to work under at least 13 Vice Chancellors during this period. It was different from each other but fantastic to work with them," Mahmood said.
He expressed his gratefulness to all including the university administrations in different times, office colleagues and journalists he met throughout his journey.
Mahmood loves to travel different nations worldwide.
He travelled to over half a hundred countries including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Switzerland.
"I'm a professional tourist. Whenever I get holidays, I travel new countries," he said.
Sharing his plan after retirement, Mahmood said, "I'll just travel the world. You won't find me in Bangladesh. I will go to the place wherever my heart wants till my last breath."
"I've another plan. I'll write a book on my work experience with the Vice Chancellors I had worked with since my joining the DU PRO," he added.
Mahmood pursued honours in English and masters at DU English Department.
He completed his second and third masters in Political Science and Philosophy respectively. Additionally, he studied Law.
Meanwhile, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan appointed Deputy Director Md Rafiqul Islam Panna as the Acting Director of the university's PRO on Monday.
