Collision between two boats leaves teenager dead

KALIHATI, TANGAIL, Oct 14: A teenage boy died in a collision between two boats in the Jhenai River in Kalihati Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The accident took place in Puraton Thana Ghat area under Kalihati Municipality at around 4 pm.
The deceased was identified as Apu Pal, 13, son of Bishnu Pal, a resident of Dakshin Betdoba Village under Kalihati Municipality.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalihati Police Station Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said that local people were travelling with different boats just before the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga. At that time, the boy was on a boat. At around 4 pm, two boats collided due to high speed. Apu Pal was seriously injured at that time.

With the help of locals, police then rescued Apu Pal and immediately took him to Kalihati Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the boy dead.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
