BPC forms Petroleum Transmission Company

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 13: The operations of the newly constructed project of Single Point Mooring (SPM) with double pipe line will start operation in January next, said Amin-Ul Ahsan, Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).

He said, "We have already started the procedures for operations of the project."

"We shall appoint an expert firm for maintenance and operation of the SPM and pipeline for three years,' he said.
Then the project will be taken by the BPC for maintenance and operation of the project including two other pipelines, BPC Chairman said.

Meanwhile, BPC has already constituted a separate company for maintenance and operation of petroleum pipelines.

The BPC has already built up four pipeline projects including SPM with double pipeline from Moheshkhali to Eastern Refinery site, India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, Chattogram-Dhaka Pipeline, Pitalganj-Kurmitola Pipeline.

The distance of SPM to Storage tanks in Matarbari is 16 km offshore while the distance from Matarbari Storage tanks to ERL tanks is 94 km, totalling of 110 km long pipeline.

Of the total 110- km long pipeline includes 73 km on-shore while 37 km offshore from SPM to ERL site.

Of them, India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline is now on operation while the construction of three other projects have been completed.

After the construction of these pipelines, new maintenance companies have been formed.  The new company is very similar to Petrobangla's GTCL.  

The company is named Petroleum Transmission Company (PTC). Now it has applied for registration in Joint Stock Company.  After registration, another subsidiary organization of BPC will be created.

In this connection, the 'Petroleum Transmission Company' has already been formed on the model of Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), a gas transmission pipeline construction and maintenance company under Petrobangla.  

BPC has approved 'Petroleum Transmission Company (PTC-PLC)' as a private limited company.  Manpower recruitment process has started and managing director has been appointed after registration with joint stock company registrar.
