Three men and a minor boy have been found dead in separate incidents in three districts - Moulvibazar, Kushtia and Sunamganj, in two days.
MOULVIBAZAR: Two men were found dead in separate incidents in Kulaura and Kamalganj upazilas of the district on Saturday.
Police recovered the body of an elderly man, who had been missing since Thursday, from a canal in Kulaura Upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Jori Mia, 85, a resident of Purba Madhabpur Village under Baramchal Union in the upazila.
It was known that Jori Mia went to the local market on Thursday afternoon for buying medicine but did not return home. Though the family members searched him various places, they failed to find him.
Later on, local people spotted body floating in the Itachhara Canal in Itkhola Village under Baramchal Union of the upazila at around 5 pm on Saturday and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the canal at night.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kulaura Police Station (PS) Abdul Alim confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter.
On the other hand, police recovered the body of a Khasia community man from a Chhara in Kamalganj Upazila of the district on Saturday morning after a day of his missing.
The deceased was identified as Paul Marlia, 40, a resident of Kalenji Punji area in the upazila.
It was known that Paul Marlia fell in a Chhara of the area and went missing there while he was returning home from work on Friday afternoon.
Later on, locals spotted his body floating in the Chhara in Galachipa area on Saturday morning and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalganj PS Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Police recovered the body of a man from the Padma River in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The identity of the deceased, aged about 50, could not be known immediately.
Pabna Laxmikunda Naval Police Outpost SI Hafizur Rahman said that local people spotted the body of the man in the Padma River in Boiragir Char area under Maricha Union of Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia in the evening and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, River police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police assumed that the man might have died about 10 to 15 days back.
Daulatpur PS OC Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the incident.
JAGANNATHPUR, SUNAMGANJ: Police recovered the floating body of a minor boy from Jagannathpur Upazila of the district on Friday night after four days of his abduction.
The deceased was identified as Sarjid Ahmed, 9, son of Al Amin, a resident of Aliganj Bridge area in the upazila.
Quoting the deceased's family members, Jagannathpur PS OC Mokhlesur Rahman Akanda said that Sarjid was playing beside the house on October 7 last. At that time, three people abducted him after luring him of visiting a boat race.
On October 9, the child's father Al Amin lodged a case with Jagannathpur PS accusing the trio.
Following this, police arrested the three.
The arrested are: Chhalim Uddin, 45, and Jonny, 25, of Gotgaon Village under Pailgaon Union; and Sohag Mia, 25, of Bagmoyna Village in the upazila.
Later on, police recovered the body of the abducted child from a fish enclosure in Inatganj Umarpur area on Friday night based on the information given by the accused.
The body was then sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Saturday.
However, legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
