2 college students die after 'taking toxic alcohol' in Faridpur

Two college students died reportedly after drinking toxic alcohol at Sadar upazila in Faridpur district early Saturday. 

The deceased were identified as Puja Biswas, 20, daughter of Sadhan Biswas, hailed from Debila village at Shalikha upazila in Magura district and a first-year college student, and Ratna Saha, 26, daughter of Ratan Kumar Saha, a resident of Amgram area at Boalmari upazila in Faridpur district and a student at Government Rajendra College.

According to the victims' families and hospital sources, the two students used to live in a rented house in the Kanai Matbar Mor area at Alipur in Faridpur town. They went to outside to observe Durga Puja festival on Friday afternoon. 

After returning from a Durga Puja festival on Friday evening, they fell sick.

Later, they were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital around midnight as their condition worsened.

Hospital sources said one of them was brought dead to the hospital while the other succumbed to his injuries around 4 am.

Asaduzzaman,  officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said that the bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Legal procedures are under process in this regard, he added.
