Three people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Chapainawabganj, Narayanganj and Madaripur, in three days.

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A man was killed in a mob attack on Thursday morning after allegedly attacking a local mosque's imam in Shimultala area in Sadar Upazila of the district.

Mizu Islam was severely beaten by locals at around 8 am after he stabbed Imam Mohammad Hossain, said police and local sources.
Harunur Rashid, a resident of the area, was also injured while attempting to save the imam.

Mizu was taken to the 250-bed Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the on-duty doctor.

Mizu had long been involved in drug dealing, said SM Zakaria, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station (PS).

It is believed that he attacked the imam out of anger after the local anti-drug committee provided information about him to the police, he said.

However, police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

NARAYANGANJ: A young man was hacked to death by his rivals over a previous enmity in Bandar Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at around 8 pm in front of Paka Bridge at Dewanbag in Madanpur Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Razib, 32, son of Hossain Matbar, a resident of the area.

Police and local sources said that Razib had a longstanding enmity with Ayaat and Miraj of neighbouring Chhotobag area.

Following this, Ayaat and Miraz along with their seven to eight cohorts attacked on Razib in front of Paka Bridge at Dewanbag at around 8 pm, and hacked him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured.

Locals then rescued the injured youth and took him to Al Baraqah Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Mohammad Razib dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any further collision.

Bandar PS OC Tariqul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to detain those involved in the killing.

MADARIPUR: A man allegedly beat his wife to death and fled after leaving her body at a hospital in Rajoir Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the house of the accused husband Bidyut Bala in Radhanagar Chamta Village under Sadar Upazila of Gopalganj.

The deceased was identified as Durga Baroi, 21, mother of a 5-month-old daughter.

According to police and the deceased's father Montu Baroi, the couple had been locked into an altercation over dowry and other family issues.

The violence escalated on Monday night and Tuesday morning when Durga expressed her wish to visit her family for Durga Puja. Bidyut severely beat up her twice, leading to her critical condition.

She was then rescued and taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. Bidyut fled the scene, leaving her body behind.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the health complex and sent it to Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Rajair police, however, arrested two of Bidyut's relatives Bijli Dhali, 40, and Malati Biswas, 34, in connection with the incident.

Rajoir PS OC Mohammad Masud Khan confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
