Batting collapse compel Bangladesh to concede massive defeat

Bangladesh suffered an 8-wicket defeat against West Indies in the 13th match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

After winning the toss, West Indies elected to bowl first. Bangladesh started losing wickets early, with Sathi Rani departing for nine runs. 

Dilara Akter looked solid until she was dismissed for 19 and Sobhana Mostary managed 16. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty fought from one end, but wickets kept tumbling at the other. 

Taj Nehar (1), Shorna Akter (0), Ritu Moni (10), Fahima Khatun (2), Rabeya Khan (not out 1) and Nahida Akter (not out 2) were unable to offer much resistance. 

Joty top-scored with 39 off 44 balls as Bangladesh managed to post a modest total of 103 for eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Karishma Ramharack was the chief destroyer for West Indies, who took four wickets for 17 runs. Afy Fletcher claimed two wickets, while Hayley Matthews picked up one.

Chasing a target of 104 runs, West Indies comfortably reached 104 in 12.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Hayley Matthews contributed 34 runs, Stafanie Taylor retired hurt after scoring 27 and Shemaine Campbelle was dismissed for 21. Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry remained unbeaten on 19 and 2 runs, respectively.

For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter claimed one wicket each.

Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh defeated Scotland by 16 runs before suffering a 21-run loss to England. The Girls in Green and Red will face South Africa in their final match today.
