Feni BCL leader remanded over firing on students

A local Chhatra league leader, who reportedly opened fire on students during the recent student movement, has been placed on a four-day remand.

The man was Shafiqul Islam Samrat, general secretary of Sharshadi Union unit Chhatra League.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Nusrat Mostari passed the order on Thursday after investigating officer Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain produced Samrat before the court and sought a 10-day remand.

Earlier, on Wednesday night, detectives arrested Samrat from Chattogram. In a video footage, Samrat was seen firing on students during the movement.

Maram Singh Tripura, officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station, said that Samrat is a suspect in six murder cases related to the firing and attacks on public in the movement.
