Eight people, including four children, were killed after a private car lost control and fell into a roadside ditch at Sadar upazila in Pirojpur district early Thursday.
The accident happened at about 2:00am.
The
deceased were the members of two families. They are Motaleb, 45, his wife Sabina, 36, his two-year-old
son Shoaib and 10 year-old daughter Mukta. They hailed from Sadar
upazila in Sherpur district; and Shaon Mridha, 32, his wife Amena Begum, 30, two
sons-- Abdullah, 3, and Shahadat, 10 -- who were hailed from Najirpur upazila in Pirojpur district.
Motaleb and Shaon were friends. They lived at Bhasantek area in Dhaka. All the members two families died in the tragic accident.
Shaon's cousin Murad said that Shaon and Motaleb were going to Shaon's home at Najirpur with their families after visiting Kuakata sea beach. Around 2:00am, Shaon, who was driving the car, lost control over steering when they reached at Nurani Gate and plunged into a roadside ditch.
Eight family members died on the spot.
Locals immediately informed Fire Service and police.
According to additional superintendent of police Mukit Hasan Khan, Motaleb's identity was known from an ID card he was carrying, which showed that he was working as a civil staff in the Bangladesh Army.
Two days ago, Shaon and Motaleb went Kuakata with their family members, Murad added.
