Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 has arrested the prime accused in sensational Iqbal Bepari murder case in Madaripur on Tuesday.
Sultan Sardar, 50, son of Hashem Sardar from Char Khagdi village, was arrested at 7:30 PM from the Sharikal Bazar area in Gournadi upazila of Barishal.
According to RAB sources, Sultan and Iqbal Bepari, from Charmuguria area, had a long-standing rivalry over establishing supremacy. On the evening of September 29, Sultan and his associates launched a violent attack on Iqbal's business establishment at Selim Super Market in Charmuguria Bazar.
Armed with local weapons, they vandalized the shop, looted goods, and severely injured Iqbal in an attempt to kill him. The attackers also detonated hand grenades before fleeing the scene.
Iqbal was rushed to a nearby hospital by locals, where doctors pronounced him dead.
RAB further revealed that Sultan Sardar was captured with the help of secret intelligence and modern technology, in a coordinated effort by RAB's Barishal and Madaripur units.
Sultan is accused in eight other cases filed in Madaripur Sadar Police Station, including charges of murder, drug trafficking, women repression, and public unrest.
