Two drown in Netrakona, Sherpur

An elderly man and a minor girl drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Netrakona and Sherpur, on Monday.
NETRAKONA: An elderly man drowned in the floodwater in Durgapur Upazila of the district on Monday. 
The incident took place in Sreepur Village under Gaukandi Union in the upazila in the afternoon. 
The deceased was identified as Rusmat Khan, 60, a resident of the area. 
It was known that Rusmat Khan slipped into a pond in the afternoon while he was walking by it, as he could not understand where the pond was due to the entire area, which was submerged under the floodwater. 
Later on, the family members found his floating body some distance from their house. 
Houses, roads, ponds, and farmland of Gaukandi Union in the upazila were under water due to incessant rain for three days and runoff from upstream.
Local Union Parishad Member Ruhul Amin confirmed the incident.
NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A minor girl drowned in the floodwater in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Monday. 
The incident took place at around 11 am in front of Ghonapara Jame Mosque under Kalaspar Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Jimmy Akhter, 8, daughter of Jaman Mia, a resident of Chandernagar Karaitala area under Dhola Union in Sadar Upazila. 
It was known that Jimmy Akhter came to visit her maternal grandparents' house in Ghonapara Village of Nalitabari Upazila recently along with her uncle. On Monday morning, Jimmy and another child, named Fahim, 9, fell in the floodwater while playing beside the road in front of Ghonapara Jame Mosque of that area.
Sensing the matter, locals rescued Fahim, but could not locate Jimmy. 
Later on, the unconscious body of Jimmy was found and taken to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Being informed, police visited the scene.
