A man allegedly beat his wife to death and fled after leaving her body at a hospital in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the accused husband Bidyut Bala's home at Radhanagar Chamta village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. The deceased, Durga Baroi, 21, was mother of a 5-month-old daughter.
According to police and the victim's father, Montu Baroi, the couple had been involved in ongoing disputes over dowry and other family disputes. The violence escalated on Monday night and Tuesday morning when Durga expressed her wish to visit her family for Durga Puja. Bidyut severely beat her twice, leading to her critical condition.
She was taken to Rajair Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared her dead. Bidyut fled the scene, leaving her body behind.
Rajair police have arrested two of Bidyut's relatives, Bijli Dhali, 40, and Malati Biswas, 34, in connection with the incident.
In two separate incidents, the bodies of two men were also recovered by Rajair Police Station area on the same day.
In a first incident, Rabiul Mridha, 32, from Alamdasta village, was found floating in a waterlogged field near the Dhaka-Barisal highway. He had been missing since Monday night.
In another case, Rubel Bayati, 29, was discovered hanging from a tree in an orchard at Kishordia area. Rubel had been missing for a day before his body was found.
Rajair Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Masud Khan confirmed that all three bodies have been sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for autopsies.
Meanwhile, Durga's father is expected to file a case with Gopalganj Police Station and further investigation will reveal the causes of these deaths, added the OC.
