An elderly man drowned in floodwater at Durgapur upazila in Netrakona district on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened at Sreepur village under Gaukandi union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rusmat Khan, 60, a resident of the area.

It was learnt that Rusmat Khan slipped into a pond while walking by it, as he could not understand where the pond was due to the entire area, including the pond, being submerged under the floodwater.

Later, family members found his floating body some distance from their house.

Houses, roads, ponds, and farmland of Gaukandi union were under water due to incessant rain for three days and runoff from upstream.
