Four minors drown in Cox’s Bazar, Thakurgaon

Four minor children including a girl drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Cox's Bazar and Thakurgaon, on Sunday.

COX'S BAZAR: Two minor boys drowned in a shrimp enclosure in Pekua Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place in Siradia Village of the upazila at around 3:30 pm. 

The deceased were identified as Abu Bakkar, 6, son of Waz Uddin, and his cousin brother Nazem Uddin, 5, son of Nazrul Islam. Both of them were residents of Siradia Village.

According to the locals and the deceased's family members, the incident occurred when the duo slipped into a shrimp enclosure at around 3:30 pm while they were playing on its bank. When the family members of the duo started searching for them, Nazem Uddin's body was found floating in the enclosure and Abu Bakkar was found dead underwater.

Local Union Parishad Member Md Manik confirmed the tragic deaths. 

The incident has cast a pall of grief over their family and community.

THAKURGAON: Two minor cousins drowned in a pond in Pirganj Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Bhomradah Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Md Rafiat, 4, son of Delwar, and Safa Akter, 3, daughter of Sumon Islam. Both of them were residents of Kusharigaon Village in the union. 

According to the deceased's family members, the duo was playing on the yard of the house, and at one stage, they fell in a pond next to the house house yard. After sensing their absence, the family members started searching for them and found their bodies floating in the water.

Officer-in-Charge of Pirganj Police Station (PS) Khairul Anam Don confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard.
