Police have recovered the body of a sex worker from Daulatdia brothel at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Monday.

The body of the victim, Sumi Akter Mita, 30, was discovered 2 PM on Monday with her hands and feet tied in her rented apartment. Mita, originally from Chaita Barat Narisha village in Dhaka's Dohar upazila, had been living in the brothel for past 7 to 8 years.
According to sources within the brothel and police, Mita was last seen on Sunday night around 11 PM, dancing and drinking at a neighboring house's dance floor. She returned to her room with a client afterward.

However, when other residents didn't see her the following morning, they went to check her room. They found the door slightly open and discovered her body tied to the window grille with a rope, lying on the bed. A scarf was also wrapped around her neck. The incident has caused widespread panic in the brothel.

Upon being informed,  Rajbari Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Mukit Sarkar, and Goaland Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge Muhammad Rakibul Islam along additional police personnel visited the scene. After an initial investigation, the body was sent to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

OC Muhammad Rakibul Islam confirmed that Mita had a 4-year-old daughter and preliminary evidence suggests that she was strangled to death.

However, the motive behind the murder and those responsible remain unknown. Authorities are working to uncover the truth and arrest the culprits swiftly, added the OC.
