Members of the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods worth a total of Tk 253 crore 56 lakh 85 thousand by conducting raids in the country's border areas and other locations during September 2024.
The seized contraband includes 26 kg 753 gm of gold, 2 kg 993 gm of snake venom, 25,442 sarees, 11,620 feet of wood, 10 kg of silver, 2,94,482 cosmetic items, three-pieces/shirt-pieces/chadars/blankets/made garments, 40,016 metres of cloth, 24,667 kg of tea leaves, 4,77,450 kg of sugar, 4,041 kg of fertiliser, 1,11,980 cubic feet of coal, 12,900 mobile displays, 1,960 pairs of glasses, 30,687 kg of yarn/currant mesh, 45,612 kg of betel nuts, 28,416 kg of fish, 3,774 kg of onions, 37,617 kg of garlic, 4,604 kg of cumin, 1 rough stone idol, 9 trucks, 17 pickups, 7 private cars/ microbuses, 8 trolleys, 191 boats, 21 CNGs/Easybikes, 108 motorcycles, and 21 bicycles.
The recovered weapons include 2 pistols, 1 gun, 10 cocktails, and 7 rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, last month the BGB seized a large quantity of drugs. The confiscated drugs and narcotics include 12,82,943 yaba tablets, 9 kg 413 grams of crystal meth (ice), 16 kg 874 grams of heroin, 29,164 bottles of Phencidyl, 20,638 bottles of foreign liquor, 137 litres of Bengal liquor, 1,347 cans of beer, 1,998 kg of cannabis, 89,044 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 2,62,701 narcotic tablets/ injections, 3,772 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 25 kg 444 grams of cocaine, 630 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 3,07,580 various types of medicines, 84,09,480 Engro/Senegra tablets, 13 bottles of LSD, and 38,655 other tablets.
Legal action has been taken against 241 smugglers and 298 Bangladeshi citizens, as well as 24 Indian citizens, for illegally crossing the border in BGB raids. Moreover, 1,621 Myanmar nationals have been repatriated after being detained.
