National Birth, Death Registration Day observed in districts

The National Birth and Death Registration Day-2024 was observed on Sunday across the country in a befitting manner.

This year's theme of the Day is - "Birth and Death Registration will bring Good Governance to the Country."

To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Barishal, Chapainawabganj and Khulna. 

BARISHAL: On this occasion, different programmes were organized in the district.

A rally was brought out from Barishal Circuit House premises in the morning, and it ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the city. 

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of Barishal Circuit House marking the significance of the Day.

Barishal Divisional Commissioner Md Shawkat Ali was present as the chief guest while District Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Delwar Hossain presided over the meeting. 

Deputy Director (DD) of Local Government Department Goutam Baroi, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Maria Hasan, and District Education Officer Md Jahangir Hossain, among others, also spoke at the programme. 

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: To mark the Day, the district administration organized different programmes in the town.

A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office in the morning.

Chapainawabganj DC Md Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as the chief guest while DD of Local Government Department Debendra Nath was in the chair.

District CS Dr SM Mahmudur Rashid was present as the special guest at the programme, where Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tasmina Khatun delivered the welcome speech.

District Livestock Officer Dr Golam Mostofa, District Secondary Education Officer Md Abdur Rashid, and DD of Women Affairs Department Sahida Akhtar, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

During the open discussion, Jhilim Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Md Habibur Rahman and Accountant cum Computer Operator of Baroghoria UP Md Al Amin highlighted the problems of birth and death registration.

KHULNA: Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Md Helal Mahmud Sharif, also Khulna Divisional commissioner, said that the government has made compulsory birth and death registration for all citizens as part of establishing good governance.

Birth and death registration is fundamental to know about the actual population of the country and design the country's development plans, he said at an orientation meeting marking the National Birth and Death Registration Day here.

KCC Health Department organized the meeting at its conference room in the city with Chief Executive Officer of the KCC Laskar Tazul Islam in the chair.

Helal Mahmud Sharif said that birth registration is essential for a citizen for their national identify and ascertain the legacy and rights of their posterity.

Besides, birth registration is required in at least 28 areas including applying for passport, NID, marriage registration, admission at educational institutions, applying for job, land registration and opening of bank account.

It was also informed in the meeting that birth registration of 10, 09,049 citizens have been completed in 31 wards of the city.

Secretary of the KCC Asif Rahman, its Chief Health Officer Dr Swapon Kumar Halder, Executive Magistrate Jannatul Afroz Swarna, and Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, among others, were also present there.

Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam presented the key note paper in the meeting.
