B Chowdhury passes away 

CA condoles death

Former President of Bangladesh and veteran politician Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, also president of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, died in a Dhaka hospital in the wee hours of Saturday.

Mahi B Chowdhury son of B Chowdhury, said this on his verified Facebook page and asked the nation to pray for his father's departed soul.

Chief Adviser Dr Yunus condoled the death of the former president.

The former President was 94, was admitted to a hospital in Uttara on Wednesday due to lung infections.

His condition had deteriorated, leading to his hospitalisation at Uttara Medical College for Women Hospital, as reported by his daughter, Shaila Chowdhury.

She mentioned that her father had a history of ischemic heart disease and had been struggling with various old-age-related health issues.

The first namaz-e-janaza of late former President was held on Saturday at 8:00am at Uttara Mahila Medical College Hospital founded by him and the second Janaza was held after Zohr prayer at Baitul Atiq Jame Masjid located on Road No 8 of Baridhara Diplomatic Area.

After his third namaz-e-janaza at 10:00am at the Srinagar Stadium today (Sunday), he will be buried at his family graveyard after the fourth namaz-e-janaza at his ancestral home at Majidpur Daihata in Munshiganj.

He was born on October 11 in 1930.

He was elected the 14th President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on November 14, 2001. He resigned from the post of President on June 21, 2002 due to political reasons.

He was elected a member of parliament from the Sreenagar constituency in Munshiganj multiple times (1979, 1991, 1996, and 2001) representing Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

During Khaleda Zia's government, he held the positions of minister of education and minister of foreign affairs.

In 1996, while the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was in opposition, he served as deputy leader of the opposition in parliament.

B Chowdhury entered politics in 1978 at the invitation of former President Ziaur Rahman, transitioning from a medical career to join the BNP, where he became the founding secretary general and later served as deputy prime minister.

After parting ways with the BNP, he established a new political party, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, on May 8, 2004, and remained its president until his passing.
