BHANDARIA, PIROJPUR, Oct 5: A local leader of Awami League (AL) was hacked to death by his rival over previous enmity in Bhandaria Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The incident took place on Fakir Bari Bridge in North Sorial area under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Zafor Ali Khan, 45, son of Munsur Ali Khan. He was the general secretary of Ward No. 3 under Awrabonia Union Unit of the AL.
It was known that there had been a longstanding dispute between Zafor Ali Khan and Mizan as Mizan married to Zafor's wife. At one point, Zafor hacked Mizan, causing two fingers separated from Mizan's hand.
Following this, Mizan along with his associates hacked Zafor Ali indiscriminately on Fakir Bari Bridge in North Sorial area on Wednesday night, leaving him critically injured.
Injured Zafor Ali Khan was then rescued by locals and taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Inspector (Investigation) of Bhandaria Police Station Milon Mandal confirmed the incident, adding that no written complaint has been received from the deceased's family yet in this connection and efforts are going on to arrest the culprits.
