Women's Amputee Football is set to officially launch in Bangladesh on 10 October, Thursday, in Dhaka. Bangladesh Amputee Football Association (BAFA), on Saturday, announced a five-day training programme followed and an exhibition match prior to the official launching programme.

With support from the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and coordination from Sports for Hope and Independence (SHI), and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the five-day training camp with the amputee footballers is beginning today (Sunday) on the BFF Premises at Motijheel in Dhaka.

Officials from BAFA and their national and international patrons including WAFF, ICRC, SHI, and BFF, as well as the representatives from the players, coaches, and referees talked about the game at a press meet held at the BFF House in Dhaka on Saturday.

There the amputee football officials informed that a total of 54 footballers, 10 local coaches and referees are expected to get training in the five-day training programme.

In their speech, they said that Football, like any sport, is considered a pathway to improving physical fitness. For women with amputations, this opportunity is even more critical. It promotes strength, flexibility, and endurance, allowing them to stay active and healthy while mastering their unique physical capabilities. The physical benefits of this sport extend beyond the field, improving daily mobility and enhancing overall quality of life.

Amputee football is quite a new concept for the Bangladeshis. Amputee football is a seven-player football concept for players with disabilities as a consequence of amputation.

Each of the teams gets seven players with six on the outfield and one as the goalkeeper. Usually, the outfield players have lower extremity amputations while the goalkeepers have an upper extremity amputation. For the condition, outfield players use loft strand (forearm) crutches and play without their prosthesis.
