A couple was arrested along with a huge consignment of drugs at Senbagh upazila in Noakhali district on Saturday.
The alleged drug peddlers Belal Hossain, 45, and his wife Afroza Akter Bakul, 33, residents of Beerkot village under Kesharpar union of the upazila, were arrested in the morning from their house.
According to police sources, being tipped off, a joint force accompanied by police and army personnel raided in the house and arrested the duo red-handed along with 10 kilograms of hemp, 45 yaba pills. At that time, they also seized cash Tk 63,000, which was earned by the drugs smuggling, and nine mobile phone sets.
Senbagh Police Station officer-in-charge SM Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter, adding that a case has been filed with the police station against the couple. Among the accused, Belal was named in 12 more other cases.
They will be presented to Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court later to take further actions, added the OC.
