A total of 26 people have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 12 districts - Brahmanbaria, Bhola, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Chapainawabganj, Barishal, Rajbari, Jashore, Meherpur, Sirajganj, Gopalganj and Laxmipur, in recent times.
BIJOYNAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a drive, arrested a drug dealer along with 320 yaba tablets from Bijoynagar Upazila in the district on Thursday.
The arrested person is Jibon Mia, son of Md Abul Kalam, a resident of Rajendrapur Village under Madhabpur Upazila in Habiganj District.
BGB sources said that on information, a team of Haraspur BOP under 25 BGB Sarail conducted a drive in Rajendrapur area of Bijoynagar Upazila on Thursday, and detained Jibon Mia.
The BGB members also recovered 320 pieces of yaba tablets from the possession of Jibon Mia at that time.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Madhabpur Police Station (PS), the arrested person was handed over to the police, the BGB sources added.
BHOLA: Joint forces, in a drive, arrested five persons and seized a huge amount of drugs from their possession from Sadar Upazila in the district on Wednesday night.
They were arrested along with the drugs from Bapta Union of the upazila at around 11 pm.
The arrested men are: Shahid, 45, Shakil, 25, Ripon, 24, Rajib, 22, and Arif, 22.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint forces comprising of Bangladesh Navy, Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive at the den of drug peddler Shahid in the Bapta Union of the upazila at around 11 pm and arrested the five, said District Navy Contingent Operation Officer Lieutenant Moftadi-Ul Islam.
The team also recovered 28.5 kg cannabis, 187 bottles of phensidyl, 17 pieces of yaba tablets, a big chopper and Tk 32,080 in cash from their possession during the drive.
Shahid is an identified drug peddler.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the arrested persons, all the seized drugs, weapons and cash have been handed over to the Bhola Sadar PS for taking further action, District Navy Contingent Operation Officer Lieutenant Moftadi-Ul Islam added.
THAKURGAON: Two drug dealers were detained along with yaba tablets and phensedyl in separate drives in Ranishankail Upazila of the district in four days.
Members of District Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in a drive, arrested a man along with 2,480 yaba tablets from Kashipur Upazila of the upazila on Wednesday morning.
The arrested person is Md Imran Ali, 32, son of Md Haider Ali, a resident of Araji Chanda Chahat Lodhabari area under Kashipur Union in the upazila.
It was known that acting on a tip-off, a team of the District DNC conducted a drive in the house of Imran Ali in Araji Chanda Chahat Lodhabari area of the union in the morning, and detained him along with the yaba tablets wrapped in 12 separate packets.
The estimated value of the seized yaba tablets is Tk 20 lakh.
In this connection, District DNC Inspector Md Farhad Akanda lodged a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Ranishankail PS against the arrested person being the plaintiff.
Later on, the arrested was produced before the court on Wednesday noon following a court order.
District DNC Inspector Md Farhad Akanda said that Imran Ali is a listed drug dealer. He used to smuggle drugs in various areas of Thakurgaon and Dhaka for a long time.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ranishankail PS Joyonta Kumar Saha confirmed the matter, adding that legal action would be taken against the drug dealer.
On the other hand, the joint force, in a drive, arrested another listed drug dealer along with phensedyl from Kashipur Union in Ranishankail Upazila of the district at dawn on Sunday.
The arrested person is Md Sumon Rana, 30, son of Md Rafiq, a resident of Checkpost Colony Village under Kashipur Union in the upazila.
Thakurgaon Battalion 50 BGB confirmed the information in a press release.
According to the press release, on information, a team of the joint force comprising with Ranishankail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), police, Ansar and BGB conducted a drive in Checkpost Colony Village under Kashipur Union in the upazila at dawn on Wednesday, and detained Md Sumon Rana along with Indian phensedyl.
Later on, a mobile court led by Ranishankail UNO Rakibul Hasan sentenced the arrested drug dealer to three months of simple imprisonment in the afternoon.
Arrested Sumon Rana is an accused in several cases under the Narcotics Control Act filed with Ranishankail PS, the press release added.
KAHAROLE, DINAJPUR: A drug addict was detained red-handed while he was consuming drugs in Kaharole Upazila of the district on Wednesday noon.
The incident took place at Bhendabari Bazar in Ramchandrapur Union of the upazila at around 2:30 pm.
The arrested person is Md Helal Hossain, 24, son of Md Abdul Majid, a resident of Purba Sultanpur Village under Ramchandrapur Union in the upazila.
It was known that on information, a mobile court led by Kaharole Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Borhanuddin conducted a drive at Bhendabari Bazar in Ramchandrapur Union of the upazila at around 2:30 pm, and detained Md Helal Hossain red-handed while he was consuming drugs.
Later on, the mobile court sentenced him to three months of jail and fined Tk 100.
After the verdict was announced, a team of the law enforcers from Kaharole PS sent the detainee to the district jail.
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested an alleged drug paddler from Bajitpur area under Shyampur Union in Shibganj Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested person is Md Azizul Hoque, 47, a resident of Bhabanipur area in the upazila.
RAB members also seized one kilogram of hemp from his possession during the drive.
RAB sources said that acting on detective information, an operational team of RAB-5 raided Bajitpur Village under Shyampur Union in Shibganj Upazila of the district, and arrested Azizul along with the hemp.
Later on, the elite force handed him over to the police after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Shibganj PS, the RAB sources added.
BARISHAL: Two drug dealers were apprehended by local people along with yaba tablets and hemp in Gournadi Upazila of the district recently. Locals then handed over the drug dealers to the police.
The apprehended drug dealers are: Sohel Sarder, son of Aziz Sarder, a resident of Kataksthal Village, and Shuvo Mandal, son of Sunil Mandal, a resident of Tarakupi Village under Barthi Union in the upazila.
It was known that members of Charghata Juba Samaj, a voluntary organization, caught Sohel Sarder and Shuvo Mandal along with 700 yaba tablets and half kilograms of hemp in Dakshin Kataksthal Village under Barthi Union in the upazila.
They then handed over the apprehended drug leaders to police.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Gournadi PS, the arrested were then produced before the court.
Gournadi Model PS OC Md Yunus Mia confirmed the matter.
GOALANDA, RAJBARI: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two drug peddlers along with 63 bottles of phensedyl syrup in Goalanda Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested men are: Md Sohanur Rahman, 36, and Md Sahid. Both of them are hailed from Udaspur Village under Shreepur PS in Magura District.
Lieutenant KM Sheikh Aktar, company commander of Faridpur RAB-10, confirmed the matter through a press release.
According to the press release, acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Daulatdia Ghat area of the upazila.
Then, the elite force stopped a motorcycle and searched it out of suspicion. At that time, the elite force recovered the drugs from their motorcycle and arrested the two motorcyclists.
The arrested people were, later, handed over to the PS concern after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against them, the RAB official added.
JASHORE: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two drug peddlers along with 7,800 pieces of yaba tablets from Nilganj area on the Jashore-Narail road in the district recently.
The arrested men are: Sujon Islam Bhuiyan, 27, and Sujon Mollah, 40. Both of them were residents of the district town.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force intercepted a private car in Nilganj area on the Jashore-Narail road and recovered the yaba tablets after searching the vehicle and arrested two people, said Squad Commander of RAB-6 Assistant Superintend of Police Md Habibur Rahman.
The arrested persons were then handed over to Jashore Sadar PS.
A case has been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act with the PS, the RAB official added.
MEHERPUR: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested a man along with 36 kilograms of hemp from Gangni Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested man is Rakib, 35, a resident of Lakshmi Narayanpur Dhala Village in the upazila.
It was confirmed by Assistant Superintend of Police and Commander of RAB-12 Md Enamul Haque at a press conference in Gangni.
The RAB official said that on information, a team of the force conducted a drive in the house of Rakib at Lakshmi Narayanpur Village and arrested him along with the drugs.
Rakib was then handed over to Gangni PS, the RAB official added.
Gangni PS OC Tajul Islam confirmed the matter, adding that a case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act in this regard.
SIRAJGANJ: Five people including a man and his daughter were detained along with drugs in separate drives in the district recently.
Members of RAB-12, in a drive, arrested three drug dealers along with 517 bottles of phensedyl from Salanga PS area in the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Md Rabiul Islam, 29, son of Mamun Akanda, a resident of Dakshin Krishnapur Village under Fulbari Upazila, and Md Rabbani, 35, son of Nur Islam, a resident of Kalyani Bazar under Birganj Upazila in Dinajpur District; and Md Shakil Islam, 21, son of Md Abdus Samad, a resident of Kusumbi Thana Sadar.
RAB-12 sources said that on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Hatikumrul Bazar under Salanga PS and detained the trio along with the phensedyl from in front of 'New Mayer Anchal' Hotel beside the highway.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Salanga PS, the arrested three were handed over to the police, the RAB-12 sources added.
On the other hand, the RAB-12 members arrested a man and his daughter along with 3,380 pieces of Buprenarphin injections from Sirajganj Municipality.
The arrested persons are: Akbar Ali, 63, son of Mobarak Khan, a resident of Rasulpur Village under Pirganj Upazila in Rangpur District; and his daughter Shamima Akhter, 31, wife of Samu Mia of Taherpur Village of the same district.
It was known that on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Katherpool area of Rahmatganj under Sirajganj Municipality, and detained the duo along with the illegal injections.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Sirajganj Sadar PS against them in this regard.
RAB-12 Sirajganj Sadar Company Commander Lt M Abul Hashem Sabuj confirmed the matters.
GOPALGANJ: Members of RAB-6 arrested two drug dealers along with 42 bottles of liquor from the district town recently.
The arrested persons are: Sohag Chowdhury and Mohammad Ali Chowdhury, residents of Miapara area in the district town.
RAB-6 sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force from Bhatiapara Camp conducted a drive in a rented house of Miapara area in the town, and arrested the duo along with 10 bottles of foreign and 32 bottles of local liquor.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Gopalganj Sadar PS against the arrested duo in this connection.
RAIPUR, LAXMIPUR: Joint forces have detained a female drug dealer along with two kilograms of hemp and 44 yaba tablets from Raipur Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested woman is Rehana Akhter, wife of listed drug leader Swapon, a resident of Ward No. 1 Rakhalia Village under Sonapur Union in the upazila. She is the daughter of late Ismail Hossain of the same area.
It was known that Rehana Akhter along with her husband has been doing drugs business in the area for long.
Following this, a team of the joint forces led by Captain of Bangladesh Army Sayeed conducted a drive in the house of the couple, and detained Rehana along with the hemp and the yaba tablets.
The team also recovered Tk 27,400 in cash from her possession during the drive.
Her husband Swapon managed to flee the scene sensing presence of the law enforcers at that time.
