The Anti-Discrimination Movement's 17co-coordinators and coordinators at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Thursday resigned expressing concern over attempts to monopolise power within the platform.
Abdur Rashid Jitu, a central coordinator, made the announcement at a press conference held at the Teacher-Student Centre.
Those who resigned include Abdur Rashid Jitu, Rudra Muhammad Safiullah, Hasib Zaman, Zahidul Islam Imon, Zahidul Islam, Fahmida Faiza, Rokaiya Jannat Jhalak, Mishu Khatun, Rafid Hasan Rajan, Hasanur Rahman Sumon, Abdul Hai Swapan, Nasim Al Tariq, Aindrila Majumder, Zia Uddin Ayan, Tanjim Ahmed, Jahidul Islam Bappy and Saidul Islam.
Jitu said, "The controversial action of some coordinators and their prioritization of personal interests over collective goals, the movement's alignment with government policies, straying from the original spirit of mass uprising," led them to resign.
He said that the movement began on July 13, as a coordinating committee to challenge systemic discrimination.
The platform campaigned against fascism, particularly in the context of Jahangirnagar University and the surrounding Savar area. A pivotal moment occurred on August 5, when the movement celebrated the "desired success."
However, the former coordinators raised concerns about the movement's current trajectory, particularly following the establishment of an interim government after August 5.
They criticised the movement's silence on critical issues, including the ban on party-based student politics, accountability for the violence in July, and the need for compensation for injured victims.
