Law Adviser Asif Nazrul on Thursday said the government decided to repeal the controversial Cyber Security Act (CSA).

He also said that not only Cyber Security Act, but all black laws would be repealed in stages one after another.

"The Cyber Security Act will be repealed and another law for cyber protection will be enacted," Law Adviser Asif Nazrul came up with the comments on Thursday during a discussion on the amendment of the Cyber Security Act, 2023.

The Law Ministry arranged a view-exchange meeting with stakeholders on the amendment of the Cyber Security Act, 2023, where an overwhelming view came for abolishment of CSA.

The programme was held at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) while the Law Adviser presided over the programme.

The Law Adviser said, "Certainly, the Cyber Security Act should be repealed. The Law Ministry is going in that direction. At this point, whether to repeal the entire act or scrap certain clauses will be decided after discussion with experts. But, ultimately this law will be repealed," he added.

The Law Adviser said a new law will be made to provide cyber security. It will ensure cyber security for everyone especially in protecting women.

Taking part in the discussion, Information Adviser Nahid Islam said, "I think the Cyber Security Act should be repealed. Even if all through amendments will be done to this law, doubts remain in people's minds. Hence, this law should be repealed and a new time befitting act should be enacted in this regard," he added.

Nahid also said that this law must be changed. But, it should be ensured that not a single case is filed under this law before enacting a new law in this regard.

TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said that this law should be repealed.

"I call for the cancellation of the name of the Cyber Security Act as it creates insecurity along with the entire law," he noted.

Apart from these, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sara Hossain, Dhaka University Law Department teacher Dr Nasimuzzaman Bhuiya, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shishir Manir, journalist leader Quader Gani Chowdhury, Barrister Anita Gazi, writer Zaheed-ur Rahman, Barrister Priya Ahsan were also spoke in the meeting  while victim student of Jagannath University Khadijatul Kubra shared her experience at the programme.
