A local Awami League leader was hacked to death by his rival over previous dispute at Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpur district on Wednesday night.
The incident happened at Fakir Bari Bridge in North Sorial area Bhandaria upazila in the district.
The deceased was identified as Zafor Ali Khan, 45, son of Munsur Ali Khan. He was the secretary of Ward No 3 under Awrabonia union in Kathalia upazila in the district.
Locals said that there had been a long standing dispute between Zafor Ali Khan and Mizan as Mizan married to Zafor's wife. At one point, Zafor hacked Mizan, causing two fingers separated from Mizan's hand.
Following this altercation, Mizan along with his associated hacked Zafor Ali indiscriminately in the area, leaving him critically injured.
He was rescued and taken to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, but he died on the way to hospital.
No written complaint has not got yet in this incident, said Milon Mandal, Inspector (investigation) of Bhandaria Police Station.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the culprits, the police official added.
