Joint forces have arrested seven Awami League leaders and activists, including a former Councillor from Mongla municipality, in a case filed over extortion at Mongla Police Station.
The were arrested from different areas in the Monga municipality early Thursday.
The arrested men are Bahadur Miah, former councillor of Ward No 3 in the Mongla municipality; Sheikh Golam Mowla Kakon, Selim Matobbar, Ashraful Alam Babu, Ibrahim Sikdar Rajon, Monirul Islam, and Humayon Kabir. All are members of the Bangladesh Awami League or its associates organizations.
KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station, stated that joint forces arrested them in an extortion case filed by Babul Howlader.
The were sent to jail through the court on Thursday afternoon, the OC added.
