Police recovered the dismembered body parts of an elderly man from a septic tank and arrested his wife and daughter in this connection on Wednesday.
The deceased was Arun Mia, 70, a resident of Fardabad village Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin) Md Iqbal Hossain at a press conference held at Brahmanbaria SP office on Wednesday said police recovered the dismembered body parts from a septic tank in Fordabad village of the upazila around 10PM on Tuesday night.
Police arrested the deceased's second wife, Momena Begum, 50, and daughter, Lucky Akter, 27, in connection with the murder on Wednesday.
The ASP said Arun went missing on September 27 (Friday). A general diary was filed over his missing with the Bancharampur Model Police Station on September 30 (Monday).
On Tuesday night, locals found the body parts as a foul odor coming from the septic tank. Later, police recovered dismembered body parts of Arun.
Quoting locals, the ASP said that Arun Mia married Momena Begum after his first wife passed away 35 years ago. They had two sons and a daughter.
Arun has also a son named Lutfur Rahman Rubel from his previous marriage.
According to locals, the couple had been experiencing marital problems for years. For that reason, Arun Mia moved to Gazipur to live with his elder son Rubel in 2017. Few months ago, he moved back to his village home to live with Momena.
Police said Arun Mia and Momena Begum locked into an argument over family issues and at one stage Arun was hacked to death with a sharp weapon. Later, Momena, along with her daughter Lucky, dismembered his body into 9 pieces and disposed of those in a nearby septic tank wrapped in polythene bags.
Rubel has filed a murder case against Momena and Lucky with the police station on Wednesday.
