Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the killing two people at Gulshan in Dhaka on Tuesday night .
The accused was Md Rumon, 27, a resident of Chattogam.
Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, chief of RAB Media Wing, at a press briefing held at Karwan Bazar of the city said acting on a tip-off, a team comprised of RAB-1 and RAB-7 conducted a drive in Halisahar area of Chattogram on Tuesday night and arrested Rumon.
He said in primary interrogation, Rumon informed the elite force that he worked at the tea stall of Md Rafiqul Islam Sikder, 62, in the area.
They had a dispute over low payment and works. On September 27 night, according to a pre-plan Rumon hacked and slit the throats of Rafiqul and another employee Sabbir, 15, with sharp weapon.
Police recovered the throat-slit bodies of two people from a tea shop at Gulshan-2 of the city.
Son of Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Gulshan Police Station in connection with the murder.
To discover the incident, RAB detectives intensified their activities and arrested Rumon from Chattogram. The RAB official said Rumon has given crucial information about the murder incident. He said two more individuals were involved in the murder.
Lt Col Munin said they continue their drives to nab other accused in the incident.
Locals said that the deceased Rafiqul, a resident of Barishal, worked as a caretaker at Plot no.21, Road no. 108 at Gulshan-2. He had also a tea stall inside the Plot. Another deceased Sabbir, a resident of Gouripur area of Mymenshigh, worked at the tea stall.
According to the Rafiqul’s son, he talked to his father over phone at around 8PM on September 26. They found Rafiqul’s mobile phone off since September 27.
The next day at around 8AM, they entered the room breaking its lock and found the blood-stained bodies wrapped with a bedcover.
The RAB official said Rumon also took away cash and valuable at the tea stall and went into hiding at his relatives houses.
