Former MP (Member of Parliament) for Sirajganj-2 (Sadar-Kamarkhanda) Dr. Jannat Ara Henry and her husband Shamim Talukder Labu have been placed on a 7-day remand after their bail plea was rejected by a court.
Md. Rasel Mahmud, Judge of Sirajganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2, delivered the order on Wednesday afternoon after a lengthy hearing.
The plaintiff's lawyers Advocate Rafiq Sarkar and Advocate Masudur Rahman, General Secretary of the Sirajganj Bar Association, confirmed the matter.
Police presented the couple to the court around 3 PM on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Sohannur Rahman Ranju, vice-president of Sirajganj District Jubo Dal, who was killed during the recent student movement. The police requested a 10-day remand, which the defense lawyers opposed.
Additionally, the couple has been made accused in three murder cases and one arms case.
Sirajganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir, said that when Jannat Ara Henry and her husband Shamim Talukder Labu were presented in Sirajganj Court, they were also shown arrested in three murder cases and one arms case.
