A court in Dhaka on Tuesday (October 1) placed arrested the Home Ministry's Public Safety Division's former secretary Jahangir Alam on a five-day remand in a teenager murder case at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Dhaka's Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain's court placed him on remand in the afternoon.
The case was filed with the Dahnmondi Police Station over the killing of teen Abdul Motaleb at Dhanmondi Police Station area in the capital during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The investigation officer (IO) of the case pleaded to the court to place accused Jahangir Alam on a 10-day remand. After the hearing, the court placed him on a five-day remand.
Earlier, the Detective Branch of police arrested Jahangir Alam from Gulshan in the capital. The DMP's Media and Public Relations Department confirmed it on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that a police official was showing former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal a video footage of shooting on the gatherings of students and people. The video footage had spread to social media. The video footage also showed Jahangir Alam was standing beside the home minister.
Jahangir Alam was the Election Commission secretary during the last national parliamentary election. Many described him as a manipulator of 'dummy elections.' Then he was elevated to the post of senior secretary at the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
