A grocery shop owner hacked to death over a previous dispute centering due money at Lalpur upazila in Natore district early Tuesday .
The incident happened at around 2:00am at Sousadanga village under Kodimsilan union in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 45, a resident of the area.
Police arrested a youth named Md Shahed Ali in a connection with the incident.
Md Nuruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, said, "There had been a long standing dispute between Shaheb Ali and Abdus Salam over due money. About a month ago, there was a quarrel between them as Salam asked money to Shahed. During that altercation, Abdus Salam slapped Sahahed Ali. Then, Shahed Ali threatened to Abdus Salam."
"Following that incident, around 2:00am on Tuesday, Shahed Ali set on fire Salam's shop and repeatedly called him loudly. Shahed Ali hacked Salam indiscriminately with machete as soon as he stepped out from his room. Then, Salam died on the spot, the OC added."
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the police official added.
A murder case is being filed in this incident, he added.
