Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam on Monday asked all concerned to lessen response time to reach quickly out to the people who would dial 999 for emergency services.

"Decrease the response time to reach very quickly out to the people who would dial the national emergency service number 999," he said when visited the emergency service office at Abdul Gani Road in the capital city.

The police chief asked all concerned to ensure the emergency services for the people at the quickest possible time alongside ensuring transparency and accountability of the service providers.

"The 999 national emergency services are very popular and acceptable among the people. The countrymen are receiving the service very warmly. Accountability and transparency in providing the services must be ensured," he added.

He also called for enhancing the periphery of the services through various social networking sites, apps and platforms online.

The national emergency service number 999 was introduced in 2017 aimed at providing services of police, fire and ambulance at the quickest possible time. Since then, the 999 service has so far received 57,098,431 phone calls.     —BSS
