UP chairman shot dead at his office in Kushtia

A local Union Parishad (UP) chairman was reportedly shot dead in his office in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Monday.

The victim was identified as Md Nayeem Uddin Sentu, 60, chairman of Philipnagar Union Parishad.

Quoting witnesses, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Daulatpur police station, Khosru Alam said that Nayeem Uddin was working in his office at the Philipnagar Union Parishad building around 11AM and some miscreants fired several rounds at him through the window behind his chair, leaving him dead on the spot.
Nayeem Uddin was the vice president of the upazila unit BNP and later, he had been politically inactive for some time, Reza Ahmed Bachchu Molla, president of Daulatpur Upazila unit BNP and former member of parliament for Kushtia-1.

Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Palash Kanti Nath said that being informed police rushed to the spot.

A panic situation has been prevailing in the area after the incident and members of police and army have been deployed in the area to control any untoward situation, he added.
