Four school girls were killed after they were hit by a microbus on the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway in Kushtia's Khoksha upazila on Sunday morning.
Three of the deceased were identified as Tanzila, 11, student of class VII and daughter of Palon Sheikh; Mim, 12, of class V; and Juthi, 12, student of class II and daughter of Helal Uddin. All of three were the residents of Shimulia Kuthipara area.
The accident occurred around 7AM at when the children were returning home after taking lesson on reciting the Quran at Shimulia Kuthipara Jame Mosque near their houses.
Eyewitnesses said, a Kushtia-bound microbus from Dhaka hit the four while they were crossing the highway and later, the vehicle fell down on a roadside pond, leaving one dead on the spot and three others injured.
Critically injured Mim, Juthi and Tanzila were taken to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead, said Kushtia Highway Police Station's OC Akul Chandra Bishwash.
