Police recovered the hanging body of an elderly woman from Baskanda village at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Fazila Begum, a resident of Baskanda village under Morispur union in the upazila.
It was learnt that Fazila Begum went to sleep around 9:00pm on Friday after taking dinner. Some time at night, she committed suicide by hanging herself with a branch of a litchi tree next to her room.
She has been suffering mental and physical health problems for long time.
On information, police recovered the body and legal procedures are under process in this regard, said Sanower Hossain, officer-in-charge of Nalitabari Police Station.
An unnatural death case will be filed in this regard, he added.
