A total of 27 people have been arrested along with drugs in separate drives in 13 districts - Chapainawabganj, Joypurhat, Bhola, Narayanganj, Cox's Bazar, Panchagarh, Rajshahi, Barishal, Bogura, Sirajganj, Rajbari, Brahmanbaria and Gaibandha, in recent times.
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug peddler along with 161 bottles of phensidyl from Sadar Upazila in the district on Thursday.
The arrested man is Md Nahid Islam, 22, a resident of Chakpara Dhulipara area under Shibganj Upazila in the district.
RAB sources said that acting on a tip-off, an operation team of RAB-5 raided Amnura Bazar area under Jhilim Union in Sadar Upazila, and arrested Nahid along with the phensedyl.
Later on, the elite force handed him over to the police after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station (PS).
Meanwhile, RAB members seized 1.010kg of heroin in an abandoned condition from Sadar Upazila recently.
Acting on a tip-off, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in Dalimbaria area of the upazila and recovered the heroin from a mango orchard, said RAB sources.
None was arrested in this connection as the bearer fled away sensing the presence of the elite force, the sources added.
JOYPURHAT: Members of Bangladesh Army arrested four drug dealers along with 20 litres of local liquor from Sadar Upazila in the district on Tuesday.
The arrested persons are: Sarswati Sing, wife of Dilip Sing, and Laxmi Sing, 60, wife of Jagen Sing, residents of Pali Adivasi Village, and Riten Pahan, 35, son of Bhutabo Pahan of Chakmohan Village under Joypurhat Sadar Upazila; and Uttam Das, 30, son of Ishwar Chandra Das, a resident of Atgharia Village under Baraigram Upazila in Natore District.
Lt Jaber of Bangladesh Army in Joypurhat said that on information, a team of the force conducted a drive in Pali Adivasi area of the upazila in the evening, and detained four people along with the local liquor.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against them, the arrested were handed over to Joypurhat Sadar PS, the army official added.
MONPURA, BHOLA: Police detained two people red-handed while they were consuming hemp in Monpura Upazila of the district recently.
The arrested are: Miraj, 27, son of Md Maleq of Ishwarganj Village under Monpura Sadar Union; and Md Bechu Mia, son of late Abdul Khaleq of Ward No. 6 under Kolatali Union.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained them from an orchard adjacent to Chowdhury Bazar in Monpura Sadar Union.
Later on, a mobile court led by Monpura Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Pathan Md Saiduzzaman fined the duo Tk 3,000 each.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monpura PS Md Jahirul Islam confirmed the matter.
NARAYANGANJ: Five people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in Rupganj and Sonargaon upazilas of the district recently.
Members of RAB-11 arrested three drug dealers along with 99 bottles of phensedyl from Rupganj Upazila.
The arrested persons are: Md Jahid, 27, son of Md Abdul Halim, and Md Ujjal Mia, 25, son of Md Aftab Uddin, residents of Boraloparagaon area; and Md Shakil, 21, son of Delwar Hossain of Murapara area in the upazila.
RAB-11 sources said that on information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Murapara Matherghat area of the upazila, and arrested the trio along with the phensedyl.
After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Rupganj PS, the arrested were handed over to the police.
On the other hand, another team of RAB-11 arrested two people along with 295 bottles of phensedyl from Sonargaon Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Sagar Hossain alias Rajib, 29, son of late Nurul Islam of Koladia Machhimpur area under Pakundia Upazila in Kishoreganj; and Md Amir Hossain, 30, son of Ruhul Amin of Chowdhury Bazar Pashchim Bigha area under Ramganj Upazila in Laxmipur.
RAB-11 Media Officer ASP Sanad Barua said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Asariarchar area of the upazila, and detained the two men along with the phensedyl.
Later on, the arrested were handed over to Sonargaon PS after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the RAB official added.
COX'S BAZAR: Members of Department of Narcotics Control Department (DNC), in a drive, arrested a police constable along with 35,000 yaba tablets from Sadar Upazila in the district recently.
Additionally, the team also arrested a CNG auto-rickshaw driver allegedly for his involvement in the drug smuggling.
Arrested Jahangir Alam, 30, is a resident of Mogoltula area under Muktagachha Upazila in Mymensingh and working as a police constable in Dhaka Judge Court. The arrested driver is Shamsul Islam, 32, of Uttar Pukuria area under Rajpalang Union in Ukhiya Upazila.
Director of Cox's Bazar DNC Sirajul Mostafa said that on information, a team of the department challenged an auto-rickshaw and recovered 35,000 yaba tablets from the police constable's possession.
At that time, they also arrested the driver in connection with the drug smuggling.
A case was filed with Cox's Bazar Sadar PS against the duo under the Narcotics Control Act and legal actions will be taken in this regard, the DNC official added.
DEBIGANJ, PANCHAGARH: Bangladesh Army arrested two people along with foreign liquor from Debiganj Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested persons are: Md Mamun Rahman, 29, son of Abdur Rahim of Khutamara area under Debiganj Municipality; and Md Jakirul Islam, 26, son of Md Yakub Ali of Gidalpara area under Sakoa Union in Boda Upazila of the district.
It was known that a team of the army from Debiganj Camp led by its Warrant Officer Jahangir Hossain conducted a drive in Sheikh Russel Mini Stadium area of Debiganj and detained the duo along with one bottle of foreign liquor. Two others persons managed to flee the scene at that time.
Debiganj PS OC Sohel Rana confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against the arrested in this regard.
RAJSHAHI: Two people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in the district recently.
RAB members, in a drive, arrested a man along with heroin worth about Tk 20 lakh from the city.
The arrested is Md Jamsed alias Nawsad alias Nasa, 56, a resident of Char Ashariadah Village under Godagari Upazila in the district, confirmed RAB-5 media wing through a press release.
According to the press release, Jamsed was waiting for a train at Rajshahi Railway Station to smuggle the drugs when a team of the elite force arrested him.
While searching him, the law enforcers recovered 200 grams of heroin from his possession.
The arrested was, later, handed over to police after filing of a case with Rajshahi Railway PS under the Narcotics Control Act, the press release added.
Meanwhile, RAB members arrested a drug peddler along with two kilograms of heroin from Godagari Upazila in the district.
The arrested was Saiful Islam, 42, of Chakgopal Village under Singra Upazila in Natore District.
RAB sources said that on information, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted a drive at Godagari C&B intersection on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi highway and held an auto-rickshaw.
After searching, the elite force found the heroin from Saiful, a passenger of the auto-rickshaw.
RAB, later, handed him over to the local PS and filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against him.
BARISHAL: Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested listed a drug dealer along with 35 bottles of phensedyl from the city recently.
The arrested man is Babul Talukder, a resident of Dakshin Baghia area under Ward No. 29 in the city corporation.
It was known that he is a listed drug dealer.
On information, a team of the DB Police conducted a drive in the house of Babul Talukder, and detained him along with the phensedyl. Two of his associates managed to flee after sensing the presence of the law enforcers at that time.
District DB Police Inspector Md Sagir Hossain confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against the arrested with the PS concerned.
BOGURA: A drug peddler was arrested on his way to Dhaka from Bogura while carrying phensidyl in rice sacks.
Members of RAB-12 arrested Amal Biswas from the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Thengamara area under Sadar Upazila of the district.
Arrested drug dealer Amal Biswas, 35, is the son of Arjun Biswas of Solar Bandar Village under Baliadanga Upazila in Thakurgaon District.
RAB-12 Company Commander Mir Monir Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said that the RAB-12 had information that a drug peddler was going to Dhaka by a bus along with a consignment of banned drug phensidyl from Thakurgaon.
Then the RAB-12 put a check-post at Thengamara area under Sadar Upazila in Bogura District and stopped the bus. Searching on board the bus, they found 150 bottles of phensidyl kept in rice sacks in a special way. Instantly, the RAB-12 team arrested Amal Biswas.
Later on, the accused was handed over to Bogura Sadar PS for taking legal action against him.
SIRAJGANJ: Members of RAB-12 arrested a man along with 26 kilograms from the district recently.
The arrested person is Nasir Uddin, 38, son of late Abdul Aziz of Noyonpur Village under Kosba Upazila in Brahmanbaria District. He lives in Uttar Saidabad area of Jatrabari in Dhaka.
RAB-12 sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Sayedabad Gol Chattar area under Bangabandhu Bridge West PS in Sirajganj, and detained Nasir Uddin along with 26 kilograms of hemp.
The team also recovered a private car from his possession.
RAB-12 Sirajganj Company Commander Lt Commander BN M Abul HAshem Sabuj confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against him with the PS concerned in this regard.
RAJBARI: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested a man along with hemp and phensedyl from Pangsa Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested is Md Hasibul, 34, a resident of Jibannagar Upazila in Chuadanga District.
RAB-10 Company Commander Lt KM Shaikh Akhtar confirmed the matter in a press release.
According to the press release, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Gopalpur area on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway and challenged a motorcycle.
While searching the two-wheeler and its driver Hasibul, the elite force recovered two kilograms of hemp and 90 bottles of phensedyl from his possession.
Later on, the arrested was handed over to the PS concerned for taking legal actions, the press release added.
BRAHMANBARIA: Three men were detained along with drugs in separate drives in Sadar and Bijoynagar upazilas of the district recently.
Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested a man along with 40 kilograms of hemp from Sadar Upazila.
The detainee was Md Jaher Mia, 40, hailed from Cumilla District.
Media Officer of RAB-9 Assistant Superintend of Police Moshiur Rahman said that acing on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Sadar Upazila and arrested Jaher Mia along with the hemp.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Brahmanbaria Sadar Model PS against the arrested in this regard.
On the other hand, two drug peddlers were arrested along with 11,875 yaba tablets from Bijoynagar Upazila in the district recently.
The arrested men are: Md Rakib Hossain, 25, a resident of Kamalmora Village; and Antar, a resident of Gonashampur Village under Bishnupur Union in the upazila.
It was known that a patrol team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-25 arrested the duo from Mukundapur Kamalmora area under Paharpur Union in the upazila.
Sarail Battalion BGB-25 Commander Lt Col Farah Mohammad Imtiaz confirmed the matter through a press release.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo along with the drugs, said the press release.
The arrested people were handed over to the Bijoynagar PS after filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against them, the press release added.
SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two individuals along with 26 kilograms of hemp from Sadullahpur Upazila in the district recently.
RAB-13 Gaibandha Camp sources confirmed the information in a press release.
The arrested persons are: Shafiul Islam, 40, and Ziarul Islam, 35, residents of Patgram Upazila in Lalmonirhat District.
According to the press release, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Sadullahpur Haat and challenged a private car.
While searching the vehicle, the team recovered a total of 16 kilograms of hemp and arrested the duo red-handed.
Later on, the two were handed over to Sadullapur PS after filling of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against them, the press release added.
