Bangladesh Army detained six people for their alleged involvement in killing Lt Tanzim Sarwar.
In a statement, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday said the army members conducted drives in Chakaria and detained six people for their involvement in the killing. They also recovered two locally-made firearms, 11 rounds of bullet, a knife used in the killing, one pick-up van and a motorcycle.
Lt Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon, 23, was killed during an operation by joint forces against criminals, including those who held illegal arms in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar early Tuesday.
The statement also informed that in primary interrogation, the detainees confessed that four of them were directly involved in the murder.
The detainees are Md Babul Prokas, 44, Md Helal Uddin, 34, Md Anwar Hakim, 28, Md Arif Ullah, 25, Md Ziabul Karim, 45, and Md Hossain, 39.
It said Bangladesh Army will continue the drives to nab other members of the robbers' group.
The detainees were handed over to the Chakaria Police Station. To file a case in connection with the incident is under process, said the statement.
Earlier, in a statement, ISPR said a team of the Bangladesh army was responding to intelligence reports of robbery going on in Purba Maizpara village of Dulhazra union of the unazila.
At around 3:00am, a group of seven or eight robbers, sensing the presence of the army patrol, tried to escape when Lt Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon gave them a chase.
The robbers attacked Lt Tanzim at this time and stabbed him in the neck, severely injuring him and leading to tremendous blood loss, the statement reads.
He was immediately rescued and taken to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead, according to ISPR.
Meanwhile, Lt Tanjim was laid to rest in Tangail following his namaz-e-janaza on Tuesday after Asr prayers.
