Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 656 mandaps in all eight upazilas, including eight Pourashavas, in the district this year.
A preparatory meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office yesterday to celebrate the Durga Puja in a peaceful manner with DC Md Azharul Islam in the chair.
The celebration will begin on October 9 with due respect and religious fervor across the country and end on October 12 with the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities, BSS reports.
Dipankar Das Ratan, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Jashore district unit said, 155 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila including the Paurashava, 120 in Abhaynagar upazila, 93 in Monirampur upazila, 92 in Keshavpur upazila , 82 in Bagherpara upazila, 48 in Jhikargacha upazila, 38 in Chowgacha and 28 in Sharsha upazila of the district.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Azharul Islam said all kinds of administrative steps will be taken to organize Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere. The district administration and the law enforcement forces will work jointly for this purpose.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Firoj Kabir said strong security measures have been taken all over the district.
The monitoring team will work at the district and upazila levels, Dipankar Das Ratan, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Jashore district unit said.
