Police have arrested life term accused Majnu, who fled away from Kashimpur Central Jail during attack after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August
5, from Khilkhet in the capital.
He is a life term accused in a case filed over raping a Dhaka University students at Kurmitola in the capital in 2020.
DMP media and public relation department deputy police commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman disclosed the information on Sunday.
On secret information, Khilkhet police team arrested Majnu early Sunday (September 22) beside a rail line behind Kuril BRTC Bus counter. Later, Majnu was handed over to Cantonment police.
Life term accused Majnu was at Kashimpur jail in Gazipur. But he managed to flee while attack on the jail on August 5 after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, Muhammad Talebur Rahman added.
Then another case was filed with Kashimpur police station against him.
Mentionable, a student of Dhaka University has been raped on January 5, 2020, at Kurmitola. The next day, the victim's father filed a case with Cantonment police station that led to a protest.
Then protest began at Dhaka University and other places demanding arrest of the rapist.
However, police arrested Majnu three days after the rape incident.
Dhaka's Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Kamrunnahar sentenced Majnu to life term imprisonment in November, 2020.
