Former khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Ruhul Amin, his son Osama Amin and 52 others were sued in an attempted to murder case over a clash at the mosque on Friday.

A man named Ziaur Rahman, as plaintiff, filed the case with Paltan Police Station on Saturday against 54 named and about 500-600 unidentified people.

Meanwhile, Ruhul Amin went into hiding after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government. Later, Waliur Rahman was given the responsibility of the new khatib.

On Friday, Ruhul along with his followers arrived at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and tried to reinstate himself as khatib. A clash broke out between followers of Waliur Rahman and Ruhul Amin.

According to the case documents, Imam Abu Saleh Patwari of the Islamic Foundation was giving a sermon before the Jummah prayer around 12:30PM and Ruhul Amin and other accused allegedly dragged him down from the dais and took away the microphone.

As the worshipers present at the spot requested them to abstain from such activities, the accused attacked them with iron rods, sticks and bricks, leaving around 50 to 60 people injured.

The accused have caused a loss of about Tk 50 lakh by breaking ACs, fans, doors and windows of the mosque, it added.
