Police have warned that stern actions will be taken if anyone takes the law into their own hands.
A press release published by the Police Headquarters was issued on Friday (September 20) clearing their stance regarding the recent incidents of mob beating.
It said the recent incidents of mob violence resulting in the killing of people in various areas are unacceptable. No one has the right to take up law into their own hands.
If anyone commits a crime, he might be punished following the existing laws. If anyone does any offence, he has to be handed over to the law enforcers; taking the law into one's own hands is not accepted in any circumstances, the release reads.
People have been asked to call the national emergency service ‘999’ or contact the nearest police station if anyone commits any crime, according to the release.
Seeking cooperation from all to prevent further incidents of mob violence, the Police headquarters requested everyone to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
"Bangladesh Police is committed to maintain the country's law and order alongside ensuring safety to the people's lives and properties", the statement mentioned.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a 'mentally unstable' man named Tofazzal Hossain was lynched at Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall of Dhaka University on suspicion of theft.
Besides, Shamim Ahmed alias Shamim Molla, a former organising secretary of Jahangirnagar University unit Chhatra League, was severely beaten by a group of students of the university and outsiders; and handed over to the police. Police took him to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
