According to the case statement, at about 5:50pm on Wednesday, a group of individuals attacked Shamim Molla near the Prantik Gate of JU. The university's proctorial team rescued Shamim, brought him to the proctor’s office and informed the police.
But some individuals, without notifying the proctor's office, moved Shamim to the security office. When the proctor became aware of this, he went there, locked the collapsible gate and dispersed the angry crowd.
However, some individuals broke the collapsible gate, entered the establishment and assaulted Shamim once again.
The police reached to the spot at around 7:30pm and informed them that multiple cases had been filed against Shamim in the past. About 30 minutes later, he was turned over to the police. On the way to Ashulia police station, his condition deteriorated and he was taken to Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Shamim dead at around 9PM.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia police station Md Abu Bakar Siddique acknowledged the case that was filed on the death of Shamim Molla. He said Shamim, who was a student of the 39th batch of the university and former organizational secretary of the Chhatra League, had been assaulted by some outsiders and students of JU.
Meanwhile, there were several accusations against Shamim, including attacking students on the premises of the vice chancellor’s residence on the night of July 15 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
