Selim Altaf George, former Awami League lawmaker from Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksa), has been place on a three-day remand in a case filed over killing of an auto-rickshaw driver at Mohammadpur of Dhaka city during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on July 19.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Saiful Islam passed the order on Wednesday after the investigation officer of the case and also the sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station Altaf Hossain produced Selim before the court and pleaded for a ten-day remand.
Earlier, detective branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Selim Altaf George early Wednesday from his Lalmatia residence early Wednesday. There are multiple cases against Selim in both Dhaka and Kushtia, DB sources said.
According to the case documents, auto-rickshaw driver Md Roni was shot during the movement in front of a primary school on Nurjahan road under Mohammad police station at around 1PM on July 19. He was rescued and taken to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
A case has been filed with the police station in connection with the murder.
Selim Altaf George was elected to parliament in 2018 but was defeated by independent candidate Abdur Rouf in the 12th parliamentary election, held on January 7, 2024.
