Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested two Myanmar nationals along with 10.5 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately Tk 11.52 crore, at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar.
The arrest took place on Monday night from Oliabad area of Teknaf municipality.
The arrested are Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, 28, and Mohammad Anwar, 30, both from Soudapara at Maungdaw in Myanmar.
Lt. Col. Mohiuddin Ahmed, the commander of Teknaf-2 BGB, confirmed the detention on Tuesday.
The BGB official said that acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted an operation in Oliabad area and arrersted the duo red-handed. During the drive, they have seized 10.5 kg of gold jewelry, 229,500 Kyat (Myanmar currency) and 10 mobile phones.
The arrested individuals were allegedly planning to smuggle the gold. The value of the recovered gold is estimated at Tk 11.52 crore, he said.
Legal procedures were underway to be taken in this regard, added the BGB official.
