Separate courts in two days sentenced two men to life-term imprisonment in different rape cases in two districts - Barishal and Natore.

BARISHAL: A court in the district sentenced a youth to life-term imprisonment for violating a housemaid in Muladi Upazila in 2014.

Barishal District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Yarab Hossain handed down the verdict on Tuesday in presence of the convict.

The condemned convict is Saiful, son of Md Shah Alam Khan, a resident of Tilmar Village in Muladi Upazila.

The tribunal also fined him Tk 50,000.

According to the prosecution, Saiful developed an illegal affair with his housemaid. At one stage, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son in 2014. But Saiful did not want to give the mother-son recognition.

As a result, the victim's mother lodged a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Muladi Police Station (PS) on April 8, 2014 accusing Saiful and his wife.

After investigation, the then Inspector of the PS Md Nurul Islam submitted the charge-sheet to the court on April 23.

Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Tuesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.

The tribunal also acquitted Saiful's wife Razia Begum as the allegations brought against her could not be proved.

NATORE: A court here sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for violating his sister-in-law by giving false words to marry her.

Muhammad Abdur Rahim, district and sessions Judge in Natore pronounced the verdict in his court on Monday in presence of the accused.

Condemned accused is Zahedul Islam, son of Muhammad Abdul Majid of a resident of Abdulpur Village in Lalpur Upazila of the district.

Advocate Md Anisur Rahaman, special public prosecutor of the court, confirmed this matter.

He said, the incident took place in the house of accused Zahedul's cousin in Kusthia District on March 15, 2021. During this time Zahedul rapped her against her wish saying that he will marry her.

Later on, the victim informed the matter to her family members.  Hearing the news, her father filed a rape case with Lalpur PS against his son-in-law Zahedul Islam on March 16, 2021.

Police after the investigation submitted the charge-sheet to the court on May 29 in the same year.

After examining all documents and evidence Judge Abdur Rahim pronounced the verdict.
